FRIDAY FILES – Buy Regional this Christmas

FRIDAY FILES – Buy Regional this Christmas

This Christmas give a gift that really makes a difference.

Many parts of Australia are facing one of the worst droughts on record. With impacts being felt beyond the farms, the Australian regional economy including retail trade and small businesses are being seriously affected.

Regional parts of Australia have incredible and unique products. From country stores, fine food, fresh produce and wine, original fashion and jewellery design, and beautiful things for kids from all across the country should be your go-to for gifts for everyone.

Check out the Facebook and Instagram pages of the Buyfromthebush initiative that showcase beautiful things to buy from rural communities facing drought.

Grace Brennan started the Buyfromthebush movement to help rural businesses survive the drought.

Check out the NSW Government’s website for a great culmination of some of the state’s fellow advocates and individual makers to find and buy special items directly.

Another great initiative is the Rural Aid Australia organisation where you can donate to assist farmers and rural communities with financial and emotional assistance.  To see their great initiatives, visit their website.

In 2018-2019, over 90,000 Australians bought a bale of hay for our farmers, allowing the “Buy a Bale” Initiative to provide more than $30 million worth of hay, water and financial assistance to farmers. This Christmas is time to “Buy another Bale” to help those farmers seriously affected by the drought, flood and fire impacts across the country. Visit their website

Farmers in North-West Queensland have had their herd numbers decimated due to the recent floods. “Buy a Cow” initiative will see flood affected farmers receive up to $15,000 to purchase cattle to re-establish their herd. For more information, please visit their website.

There are many other great initiatives to help boost Australia’s Regional economy, so this Christmas buy from the bush!
