Over the past few years we have been seeing a huge resurgence in the use and love for wallpaper. Granted, it has come a long way from your Mother and Father’s formal lounge. Today there is a wallpaper solution for any situation, High traffic entrances, living rooms, bathrooms, bedrooms and even kitchens.
Here are some of our top 3 tips for decorating with wallpaper:
1. Embrace vinyls! Vinyl wallpaper has advanced in leaps and bounds over the past couple of years. Now we are seeing leather looks, grasscloth and even silk replications in hard wearing, easy to clean vinyl! This is a perfect option to use in areas such as the kitchen or bathroom as it is scrubbable. Also is high traffic areas or where children are involved vinyls are better than paint for these applications. All in all they are durable, easy to clean, have no colour variation, add texture and look great.
2. Use wallpaper as a layer of decoration. Wallpaper, while it looks great on its own, really brings a room to life when used as a layer of decoration. Whether it be wallpaper behind shelving, lining joinery or even behind clustered artwork the added interest can really make a difference.
3. Don’t be afraid of bold pattern. Many people are afraid to use bold patterns or colour when it comes to wallpaper, but they needn’t be. If you are not confident to go all out straight away, try wallpapering a small area like a powder room or walk in robe first in your favourite out there design. Sometimes the quirky touch of bold wallpaper is far more impactful in a small area.
