21 Feb Friday Files by: BOYAC – Women In Design Exhibition
This week on Friday Files we celebrate the “Women In Design” exhibition held by the DIA as a satellite event of Melbourne Now. The exhibition discusses the contribution Melbourne women make to our built environment.
Presented by the Design Institute of Australia Victoria Tasmania Branch, the exhibition profiles creative leaders from the disciplines of Architecture, Furniture Design, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Interior Design, Landscape Architecture, Visual Art, Textile Design and Inter-disciplinary Design.
The fourteen contributing designers – Celina Clarke, Debbie Ryan, Helen Kontouris, Helen Watts, Jenny Underwood, Kerstin Thompson, Kirsten Bauer, Leah Heiss, Leanne Zilka, Michaela Webb, Penelope Lee, Simone LeAmon, Sue Carr and Susan Hewitt – will delve into their catalogue of work to feature projects which tell the story of their careers.
Visitors will gain an insight into the design and development process through the presentation of plans, renderings and photographs of built projects. Scale models will sit alongside textiles, homewares, furniture, lighting and videos of projects in development.
The exhibition will feature floor talks by participating designers and a historical component in support of the tradition of women’s contribution to our built environment.
The exhibition closes on the 22nd of February so make sure you pop down to fortyfivedownstairs at 45 Flinders Ln, Melbourne to check it out and support these leading Melbourne ladies!
