Création Baumann’s Oddy tested fabrics are an asset to museums across the globe. The science behind these fabrics and the publishing of the scientific results help curators to determine the most appropriate products to use. The process of testing these fabrics is as follows; once the pH value of the fabric has been determined and the Oddy tests have been carried out, the fabrics are then allocated into three different classifications. Those classifications are; “Permanent (P), Temporary”(T), or “Unusable”(U).
Testing for harmful substances is also important when considering which fabrics to use. Once the pH value is determined, it has to fall between certain thresholds (acidity, alkalinity) and an assessment of corrosive compounds (silver, iron and lead) is also completed. The scientific support behind these fabrics mean that they are ideal for museums, cruise ships and many other commercial spaces.
