Ever wonder how fabric company’s test textiles for Fire Retardancy (FR)?

This week on Friday Files we have videos direct from the Creation Baumann mill in Switzerland showing exactly how FR testing is completed.

As this picture shows FR testing is completed by taking a strip of fabric (shown in the blue) and marking a line 10cm up the strip. Then an open flame is placed at the base of the strip of fabric for 30 seconds.

For a fabric to be considered FR the fabric must not ignite in flames or melt away past this line. The following videos exhibit how each fibre holds up when tested.
