PROFILE ON IKSEL DESIGNER, DIMONAH IKSEL

For INTERNATIONAL WOMENS DAY, we are celebrating IKSEL Creative Director, Dimonah Iksel.

Dimonah was born to a family of jewellers to Iraqi-Hungarian parentage.  She spent her childhood in Tel-Aviv, Tehran, Geneva and Montreal. Later she lived in Calgary, New York, Jaipur, Paris and settled in London.  Today Dimonah and her husband and business partner, Mehmet lksel, commute regularly between Istanbul and London, as they have an office in both cities.

Dimonah is responsible for much of the artistic direction at Iksel Decorative Arts. She believes she acquired her sense of colour and composition from her many travels and from working for fifteen years with gemstones as a jeweller and designer.

Dimonah took on imaging software in 2001, exploring the possible transformations and constructions of the IKSEL paintings and “scenics” in the new digital world. Nothing seemed impossible.

Since then, Dimonah has developed all the IKSEL scenic decors by imagining, composing, closely following the painting and elaborate post-production work and final colours.

Today we celebrate her creativity and how it has transformed interior architecture and design. Without Dimonah, IKSEL would not have the rich library of wallcoverings that constitute Iksel’s database.

Some of the IKSEL decors are entirely the fruit of Dimonah’s imagination, and therefore signed with her initial; these are D-Dream, D-Rajput Fantasy & D-Ocean Still Life.

IKSEL JAPANESE-INSPIRED SCENIC DECORS

NEW JAPANESE-INSPIRED WALLCOVERINGS

Introducing a selection of our Japanese-inspired Scenic Decors: ‘Japanese Cranes’, ‘Edo Wisteria’, and ‘Japanese Stables’.

Each of these captivating designs embody the true spirit of Iksel: Meticulous crafted through archival research, delicate handpainting and thoughtful composition. The results are unique, refined and timeless decors.

We are confident our Scenic Decors will be able to add a touch of grace to your interiors, while celebrating Japanese aesthetic values.

Our ‘Japanese Cranes’ design is inspired by the artistic tradition of Japan, where folding screens were used as decorative and functional elements. These screens often depicted scenes of nature, such as birds, flowers, and landscapes. We have taken a magnificent example from the 17th century and transformed it into a full scenic design that covers the entire wall, creating an elegant landscape.

Edo Wisteria’ is a surprisingly modern design that draws from 17th century Japan. The gnarled bark has a calligraphic elegance which contrasts with the soft wisteria blossoms. We have transformed this original screen design into a Scenic Decor available in 11 vibrant colors and 5 standard sizes, spanning over 12 meters at 3m height.

Japanese Stables’ is a fusion of exquisite Japanese screens we have restored and reworked. Two of them, dating back to the early 16th century, feature an array of horses in a stable, painted in the graceful Yamato-e style. The background is a lush meadow from other screens, created in the early 17th century, and showing a serene autumn night.
