Friday Files – International Women’s Day 2020

The International Women’s Day, celebrated on 8th March since 1910’s, is an annual reminder of the gender equality progress that is still ahead of us. Of course, women’s rights movements all over the world have begun filling the gap between men’s and women’s rights, but a lot remains to achieve. 

As you can see on our above picture, purple is the internationally recognised colour to symbolise women, according to the International Women’s Day website.

Gloria Steinem, world-renowned feminist, journalist and activist once explained “The story of women’s struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organization but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights.”

We are proud of our two female-led brands: Bernie de Le Cuona and Barbara Osorio.

Bernie de Le Cuona is driven by her passion for linen and perfectionism. Beginning with cushions, she put her mastery into her work, built her reputation and some 20 years later, here she is – one of the most admired fabric designers. In 2010, she was ranked best fabric designer by VERANDA’s Art of Design. 

Every year Bernie delights us with new exquisite fabrics. The latter are soft, natural and incredibly elegant. Pure, embossed and stone-washed linens are her signature, while wool yarns are added to create textural nuances. Her wool and cotton paisleys, ravishing at first glance, enjoy worldwide reputation.

After working 20 years in the industry, Barbara Orioso has taken her knowledge and inspiration to create her own eclectic and fantastic fabric brand. She likes mixing colours and uses her creativity to surprisingly combine textures. We just love how her personality is reflected in her fabrics.
