Designer Discovery

VRC-Autumn-2012-MagazineWith Spring carnival just around the corner Boyac, thought we ought get the low down on what’s hot! Hannah Pearce Milliner  has previously featured Boyac fabrics in her work and is here to tell us how it all began.

How did you get into millinery?

When I returned from traveling after high school I was looking to study Fashion Design. Millinery was suggested to me when showing my high school folio, most of my work had been sculptural and it seemed like a natural combination of fashion and sculpture.

How long have you been doing it for?

I completed my studies in Melbourne around 2007 and have been making hats since.

Where do you find inspiration for Spring carnival every year?

Mostly from the materials I work with. I find an interesting textile, like the beautiful Le Crin for example, and it will just want to work a certain way.

With social media these days you also have inspiration at your fingertips.

Hats or fascinators which is best?

It depends on where you’re going and really what you are comfortable wearing. I love hats personally and think that Spring Carnival is the perfect time to go the whole way with a beautiful hat. It’s the perfect opportunity to really be bold and stand out.

Looking forward to seeing more of your work this year.
